| Northlew & Ashbury Parochial Primary School
is a C of E Voluntary Controlled Primary School, situated in the
centre of Northlew village. We are approximately seven miles north
west of Okehampton.
The school is a voluntary
controlled Church of England school in the Diocese of Exeter.
This is a small rural school with an intake of children from Northlew
and outlying areas. We currently have a roll of 34 pupils. We
take girls and boys aged from 5 - 11 years old. They are organised
into two classes:
Keystage 1, for Reception, Years 1 and 2
Keystage 2, for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
There is an assembly hall which divides the
two classes, a library, an office and small kitchen area. The school was recently extended to house a new classroom for keystage 2 children and new toilets. To the
rear of the school is a tarmac playground. Adventure
play equipment is situated on the grassy area just beyond the
playground, allowing activities such as climbing, hanging and
balancing to take place. There is a pond area for the children
to use for environmental studies and a small garden which the
children use to grow vegetables and other plants. The playground
has beautiful views of Dartmoor.
Unfortunately there is no Pre School in Northlew but there are 3 other Preschools within 5 miles of the village: Highampton (4.5 miles), Bratton Clovelly (5 miles) and Hatherleigh (5 miles). Highampton is the favoured preschool for most eligible children in Northlew.
There is a Parent and Toddler Group in the village, held every Wednesday from 10am - 12 noon in the Victory Hall.
